GLEI’s mission is to enable the transition to advanced sustainable energy generation, storage, distribution and utilization, through coordinated research, development, and education. Multiple advanced energy sectors comprise this research, much of which coalesce under the umbrella of utility scale power. These sectors include: Energy Power Management, Energy Generation, Storage and Conversion as well as Lifetime and Degradation Science.
It is the vision of the Great Lakes Energy Institute to be an active collaborator with industry, philanthropy, government and other academic institutions in transformational energy research projects and educational outreach. GLEI supports faculty in energy by linking their research to industry needs and economic development initiatives providing innovative solutions to meet the emerging world energy challenges. Simultaneously, GLEI aids in the cultivation of the most important resources being developed at Case Western Reserve University: the next generation of engineers and scientists trained to meet the growing demands for clean energy technologies.
